Mount Pleasant take 5 at Connacht Junior Open

An incredible haul of riches for our superb junior squash players of 5 titles at the Connacht Open!! Firstly we had an U11 final featuring two of our promising juniors Sean Murphy and Jack O'Flynn. There was nothing to separate them in most this match Jack eventually taking it, in the nail biting fifth game. Next up was Denis Gilevskiy who played top Sutton U11 junior, Dylan Moran. Denis won in four games. Nikita Gilevskiy then took the U19 title against local Jack Davis. Nikita had a straight forward 3-0 win. Scott Gillanders then took on Sutton's Conor Moran and on this occasion had a comprehensive 3-0 victory. Scott dictated the match from the start to finish and ended the tournament not dropping a single game. Lastly, a super performance from Brenda Li gave her the U1 3 title in a very tight match against Ulster's tenacious Hannah McGugan. Brenda started poorly but got stronger as the game went on and finally clinched the first prize with a mamoth effort of strength and conviction despite severe oxygen debt!! Special mention to Matthew Li who was unfortunate to meet Denis in the quarter final, however he went on to win all his next matches to finish 5th. Jude Foley and Elliot Kelly also gave a great account of themselves as did brother and sister Vklad and Sasha Zheleznyak who were playing their first big away tournament. Allwill be in the final reckoning in future events. All the coaches in Mount Pleasant should take pride and credit for these great performances. Personally I am very proud to be associated with these junior players. The future is very bright indeed for Mount Pleasant Squash!
