Social Tennis

Picture_005 Tennis is a more social game than tag rugby - especially at Mount Pleasant LTC, Ranelagh!

Our Friday night mixed-doubles tournaments are the first port of call for all new tennis members wishing to meet others and arrange tennis games during the week and social activities throughout the year. The Friday night tournaments are open to Tennis, Badminton and Squash members. Prospective members are welcome to play on a Friday night before making the leap to joining!

The Social aspect to our Tennis activities comes in a number of guises, please see the following list and read the text that follows:

Friday Nite Tennis
Friday tournaments are relaxed events with a heavy emphasis on sociability. Members sign-in at 6:45 and play mixed-doubles tennis between 7:00 and about 9:30 and then go to the clubhouse bar to mix and mingle to music afterwards.

The format of these tournaments varies, but participants are guaranteed to meet lots of other members and have fun.

Sometimes it rains on a Friday evening but it always seems to stop at 7pm before we go out! Just to be sure why not check the rainfall radar on the Mount Pleasant LTC homepage to prove it!

505 Nites
Once a month, our Friday Nite Tennis is followed by the 505 members draw with music and dancing.

Tennis Weekends Away
Mount Pleasant LTC members have a tradition of bringing their social exuberance to Open Tennis tournaments throughout Ireland. We have consistently won the prize (a crate of beer!) for bringing the most participants to Wexford Open at Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club – which is held in the Sunny South East on the August Bank Holiday weekend every year. We usually bring a big crowd to the West of Ireland Open at Sligo Tennis Club on the May Bank Holiday weekend every year too. Members also attend the Galway Open at Galway LTC on both the June & October Bank Holiday weekends.

All of these tournaments are graded and cater for tennis players of all standards – from the best players in Ireland and beyond to those that have only recently taken up the game. Don’t be deterred if you don’t quite have your ‘A game’! You will enjoy the craic at least!

Sociability is an important component of the inclusive weekend experience and a highlight of all of these trips includes partying to the wee hours in the clubhouse and/or the hot-spots in each town/city.

Our Friends in Tennis
In no time at all, members of Mount Pleasant LTC spread their social wings to participate on the tennis open tournament circuit throughout Dublin and beyond. Other tennis clubs welcome our members in their open tournaments and to participate in their social activities. We have a close friendship with the Bective and Lansdowne tennis clubs and participate in the social activities in their Open Week and in the Open Week of many more clubs throughout the tennis open-tournament season from April to September every year.

The Mount Pleasant Open
The Mount Pleasant LTC Open takes place in June of every year. There is a full programme of social activities including our vibrant Cocktail night, Strawberries & Cream tennis, table quiz, fashion show and much more!

New Members tennis (Freshers Nites)
New members are especially welcome at Mount Pleasant LTC. We have a few new members tennis nights where the new members are welcomed with a glass of wine or two and introduced to committee members.

Mount Pleasant trips abroad.
The Tennis Committee has organised a number of tennis holidays for a great tennis week away in the sun where members mix tennis lessons with nights out. Check out the latest trip details here Many members also orgainse ski trips in winter as well as trips to International Tennis tournaments, like Wimbledon, The US Open, the French Open and other smaller events.
